What is “unloading/distraction” and what are the benefits?
“Unloading” simply means that the amount of loading is decreased (decompressed) whereas “distraction” (or traction) relates to an influence beyond zero (i.e. negative loading). (The Burton Report, Planet Earth and the Gravity of the Situation)
Through injury and aging over 85% of people experience low back pain at some time through their lives. From the minute we are first upright, gravity plays a role in the daily and long term degeneration of our spines by loading them with upper torso weight. The continuous daily degeneration cycle gradually dehydrates, compresses and compromises the discs of the spine, often resulting in spinal disc decease and disc herniations.
Many people find their low back pain lessens or disappears when lying down as this effectively “unloads” the gravitational weight from their spine. Stationary traction devices can do more than simply unloading gravitational weight by reducing the compression to a negative state and are often used to treat low back pain.
PneuVation’s unique technology allows completely soft, supple devices to be applied to various regions of the anatomy and then inflated to produce pain relieving unloading/distraction and/or stabilization.
